LIEF Grant

The Adelaide University in partnership with the University of Western Australia has been awarded a LEIF grant - "High Performance Clock Facility for New-Generation Radar, Imaging, Measurement and Radio-Astronomy".

All high-performance communication, radar, measurement and VLBI radio-astronomy systems are dependent upon access to extremely spectrally-pure signals with a well-defined and stable frequency: it is the purity of these signals that sets the limit to their respective performance. This proposal is to allow construction of a portable clock facility for use by the leading Australian proponents in the radar, measurement, imaging and radio-astronomy communities. This new facility will generate superb signals that are 10 times to 1 million times better than anything commercially available. The facility will be deployable to the field so as to allow a diverse set of high-value measurements and observations that would be otherwise impossible.
