LIEF Grant

The University of Adelaide in partnership with Monash University,  The University of New South Wales, Defence Science and Technology Group was the recipient of the LEIF grant - "High resolution airborne P-band radar for environmental research". This project also involves international organisations such as the University of Southern California and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

This project helped to establish a unique national capability for airborne radar remote sensing at P-band. This facility allows researchers to obtain unprecedented detail on environmental variables including soil moisture, salinity, vegetation and terrain height, using an affordable airborne platform. This instrument complements existing radar and radiometer capability at L-band to provide the first tri-band (1.2GHz, 860MHz, 440MHz) active-passive satellite simulator of its type world-wide.
