Stories from the South: A Public Book Club

This month we read Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner’s Iep Jāltok, poetry that offers a powerful testimony of the Anthropocene. In this debut collection from the first published Marshallese poet, who is also the Marshall Islands’ climate change envoy to the United Nations, Jetñil-Kijiner speaks to the violent histories of nuclear testing, racism, and militarism that affect the region. The poems grieve, bearing witness to irrevocable loss at both local and planetary scales.

Discussion will be facilitated by scholars Mandy Treagus and Theodora Germanos-Galanis together with poet Jill Jones.
