DIDA: Navigate university life with disability pride

DIDA - The Disability, Illness and Divergence Association

With Nat, DIDA president.

The Disability Illness and Divergence Association (DIDA) is a YouX-affiliated social club at the University of Adelaide, run by disabled students for disabled students.

Our journey began in 2021, fuelled by the need to establish a communal haven for disabled students, recognising the additional hurdles many of us encounter in our university lives. We have found that a community attuned to these challenges can foster an environment where making friends becomes a touch easier.

DIDA takes pride in orchestrating a diverse array of social events catering to students with conditions impacting their studies (no diagnosis necessary) encompassing disabilities, chronic illnesses, mental health conditions, and neurodivergence. From casual coffee catch-ups to spirited games nights and events spotlighting disability justice, our events are designed to cater to a spectrum of interests within our community.

Our paramount commitment revolves around fashioning events as sanctuaries of safety and accessibility. DIDA events serve as spaces where students can engage in meaningful conversations, forge lasting friendships, and exchange invaluable insights and experiences pertaining to university life as a disabled, chronically ill, or neurodivergent student.

Becoming a member of DIDA is free and will keep you updated on our events and activities through email and access to our private social media groups. A warm welcome from DIDA — a community built on understanding, resilience, and the shared journey of navigating university life with disability pride.
