New AI/VR lab for Immersive Media students
Immersive Media students, have you ever wondered what it would be like to experiment with next-gen VR and AI tools? Imagine no more! The Australian Lab for Immersive Technologies (AILT) will be launching at Nexus 10 on North Terrace.
AILT is like a creative playground for students, researchers, and industry. Inside, there are advanced motion-tracking systems, interactive displays, simulation tools, and a digital performance space connected in one cutting-edge lab.
It’s designed to support academic research, industry collaboration, performance, and teaching, and will be occupied by the University of Adelaide’s immersive technology and research service, Realities Extended, alongside selected researchers and Immersive Media students.
“ALIT is a first for Adelaide, and one of only a handful of facilities like it in Australia,” says Steven Cook, Senior Lecturer and Head of Realities Extended. “Its combination of immersive tracking, simulation capability, advanced interactive display systems, and performance potential sets it apart from traditional VR/AR labs. The integration of all these technologies in one cohesive space makes ALIT truly unique and one of the most versatile immersive technology labs in the country.”
