Cheng-Chew Lim is a professor at the University of Adelaide.
From 2010-2016, he was Head of School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering of The University of Adelaide.
He has published over 190 research articles in control, wireless systems, optimisation, and microelectronics.
He has supervised to completion 20 PhD candidates and 8 Masters research candidates.
His PhD and MPhil supervision focus is on control theory and systems, multi-agent formation control, and machine learning and cyber security.

Current Research Projects
Novel Fuzzy Modelling and Design of Complex Networked Systems. Summary: With rapid development in network and computer technologies, network-based nonlinear systems have been used extensively but their applications are facing challenges including sustem-wide nonlinearities and network-induced time delays. This project aims to develop some novel analysis and synthesis approaches for nonlinear networked control systems, including modelling, stability analysis, and design problems. A software-based nonlinear networked control system platform will be established to test the presented algorithms and further strengthen the scenarios in applications.
Multi-agent System with Limited Sensing and Communication. Summary: This project considers the situation where multiple agents are scattered in space and the goal is to drive the agents into a predefined formation. We investigate the design of protocols and control laws where agents are limited to the sensed displacement data of only their neighbouring agents. We also consider the case where communication among agents becomes inaccessible and thus agents behave in an unknown environment. To solve this problem, we are designing a control law that drives agents to a partial predefined formation and a coordination protocol to eliminate all collisions while maintaining connectivity.
Eavesdropping and Malicious Jammer Detection Using Machine Learning in Wireless Sensor Networks. Summary: This project aims to enhance the security of wireless sensor networks against malicious attackers. In the wireless setting, the sensors are relatively easy to access and analyse, thus it is no longer sufficient to rely on cryptography as a means to counteract attempts to infiltrate the sensor network. The main threat is the spoofing of sensors, and this project will consider protection mechanisms on the physical layer and the network layer. The physical layer's main strategy is to determine network protocols that are difficult to spoof based on the sensors' group intelligence. The network layer's main strategy is to analyse the data flow using machine learning techniques to detect suspicious activity. This project is undertaken by two teams. The University of Adelaide investigates the issues at the network layer and the GIST Korea investigates the issues at the physical layer.
