Faculty of Health Sciences Executive Dean's Public Lecture presented by Professor Ian Symonds, Dean of Medicine, The University of Adelaide

As the new generation (born since the start of the millennium) enters medical school, they will work in a very different health care system to the one most of their teachers trained in. Single diagnosis acute disorders replaced by chronic multi-systems disease, technology not even imagined 20 years ago and care delivered by multidisciplinary teams will be just some of these changes. At the same time the expectations of these 'Millennials' for their own careers will surely be as different as those of Gen Y have been before them.

In this talk Professor Symonds will outline how medical training has evolved over the last 100 years and is changing to meet the needs of both its students and their future patients and answer the question " Do we have a health education system that is fit for purpose for 21st century practice?"
