A year of celebrations

Waite 100

Saturday 4 May – Waite 100 Gala

The Waite 100 Gala will be an exclusive black-tie, stand-up cocktail affair celebrating 100 years of the enduring Waite Gift. Featuring food by celebrity chef Matt Moran and supported by East End Cellars, this Night of Nights is a once-in-a-lifetime event not to be missed.

In its 100th year, the Waite campus has become home to one of the largest concentrations of agricultural and wine research and teaching expertise in the southern hemisphere and fittingly, we will celebrate on the lawns adjacent the historic Urrbrae House where the Waite family lived from 1877 until 1922, under the enchanting lights of a remarkable sail cloth tent.

Tasting Australia

Monday 6 May to Sunday 12 May – Tasting Australia Masterclasses

Tasting Australia is our nation’s longest running eating and drinking festival – a celebration and collaboration of people, produce and places.

The University of Adelaide is proud to present 11 unique masterclasses at Tasting Australia 2024, inviting audiences to experience the fruits of the crucial research and education in agriculture, food, and wine carried out at the Waite campus for the past 100 years. Several masterclasses will be held at the Waite campus for the first time, allowing guests to see first-hand where this important work is carried out.

Friday 31 May to Wednesday 5 June – Speaking from the South

What does it mean to speak from the South? What unique perspectives does this vantage point bring to the pressing issues currently facing the world, such as growing inequality, climate change, the impacts of colonialism and the mass displacement of people?

In an unprecedented double billing, this event will feature public readings by Nobel Laureate, J.M. Coetzee, alongside 2021 Nobel Laureate for Literature, Abdulrazak Gurnah, with public readings, panel discussions and talks by major international and Australian writers and thinkers, as well as musical performances and exhibitions.
