Cyberlindnera fabianii

Cyberlindnera fabianii is a rare cause of candidaemia.

RG-1 organism. 

Culture: 
Colonies (SDA) white to cream-coloured smooth, glabrous, yeast-like.

Microscopy: 
Spheroidal to ellipsoidal budding blastoconidia, 3.0-6.5 x 2-5.5 µm in size. No pseudohyphae are produced. Asci when present, are spherical, containing one to four spherical, finely roughened ascospores.

India ink preparation: 
Negative - no capsules present.

Dalmau plate culture: 
Spherical to ovoid budding yeast cells and occasional pseudohyphae produced.

Molecular identification: 
ITS sequencing recommended.

Able to accurately identify this species.
