Mould identification: a virtual self assessment

Case history

A 67-year-old man underwent liver transplantation for chronic liver failure due to cirrhosis caused by hepatitis C. Immunosuppressive therapy consisted of steroids and tacrolimus. On day 5, post-transplantation, chest x-ray revealed multi-lobar consolidation, suspicious for fungal infection. On day 7, an Aspergillus galactomannan (GM) test reported antigen levels of 4.8. A bronchoalveolar lavage was performed and cultures grew the fungus shown below.
