What's happening for Pride Month on campus?
Why we celebrate Pride Month
Pride Month is dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community, promoting equality, and raising awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights.
Pride Month, celebrated annually in June, commemorates the Stonewall riots in June 1969 in New York City. These riots were pivotal in the LGBTQIA+ rights movement worldwide, as they sparked a wave of activism and advocacy for equal rights and acceptance. Watch the Smithsonian Channel’s 2:52-minute video on YouTube that explains the event from the perspective of an eyewitness to the riots.
Pride Month is a reminder of the progress made and the work that still needs to be done to ensure everyone can live authentically and without fear of discrimination.
This June, we will celebrate the diversity of sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions.
