University Preparatory Program (UPP)

The University Preparatory Program (UPP) is a free* one year program for anyone who wants to get ready to enter university. Wirltu Yarlu supports all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who participate in the program.

The program will help you to improve your skills in numeracy, literacy and research, while providing an introduction to university culture. The program aims to give you the tools to become a successful university student so you will come away from the program with the confidence to go on to further university study.

This program is fee free and a HECS debt will not be accumulated.

* No course or amenity fees apply, however this does not consider other incidental costs and living expenses such as; travel, stationary etc. For more information visit our other financial considerations page for future students.

  • University year

    The University year consists of two semesters, with each semester of 12 weeks duration. The first semester starts in early March and the second starts in late July.

  • How to apply

    Applications can be made through the Wirltu Yarlu Access Pathway.

  • Costs

    There are no HECS–HELP Higher Education Loan Program fees associated with this program.

  • Abstudy

    Abstudy is available to eligible UPP students. Abstudy is an income tested financial assistance scheme for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander students undertaking studies at universities and TAFE institutes.

  • Student support

    Wirltu Yarlu provides students with a variety of facilities and services including: Wirltu Yarlu Tutoring Program, assistance and advice with academic and personal concerns, a student common room, computer suites and study areas, photocopier and printer.   • Wirltu Yarlu academic mentoring program

    The Wirltu Yarlu Academic mentoring program offers ATSI students tutors to assist with their studies. This service is free of charge to the student. Wirltu Yarlu administers this scheme at the University with experienced tutors able to assist in all of the Preparatory Program courses.
