Award foursome for Radio Adelaide

Tuesday, 30 November 2004

Adelaide's leading community radio station, Radio Adelaide, has been recognised four times over at a recent major national radio awards night.

Radio Adelaide (101.5FM) won two National Awards for Excellence at the annual Community Broadcasting Association of Australia conference at the Gold Coast, and received a high commendation in two other categories.

It received the national award for Contribution to Local Music and Contribution to Ethnic Broadcasting, and high commendations in the Radio Station of the Year and Excellence in Spoken Word Programming categories.

The Contribution to Local Music award was given for Radio Adelaide's SA Music Profiles, a series of 12 profiles on local musicians produced by a range of broadcasters, while the Contribution to Ethnic Broadcasting recognises Radio Adelaide's commitment to diversity at all levels.

Radio Adelaide manager Ms Deb Welch says the awards are a credit to all those who work at the station, many of whom are volunteers.

"We simply could not receive this kind of recognition without a lot of people at the station working very hard," she says. "We are fortunate to have such a talented and exciting group of people who believe in what they are doing making such great radio."

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia includes some 250 stations, while community radio itself is the country's largest radio network, with more than 400 stations in city, regional, rural and remote parts of Australia.
