Researchers

AdelaideX, on behalf of the University, is generating a massive dataset relating to students enrolled in an AdelaideX course since December 2014. This dataset provides a rich repository of information for research.

AdelaideX is able to support research by University staff who wish to conduct research into MOOCs. Our data can be analysed and filtered to produce information to support investigations into:

  • digital pedagogies
  • effective methods for online design and development
  • learner engagement in MOOCs
  • impacts and outcomes of learning with MOOCs

AdelaideX has developed an online Analytics Dashboard that will enable stakeholders to access standardised and bespoke data visualisations from our technology partner edX and third-party sources.

Access to the dataset and the dashboard can be arranged by agreement with AdelaideX.

The scope of potential research projects relating to MOOCs is extensive, and your research needs may involve significant planning by the AdelaideX team in order to provide the appropriate data and insights to you when you need them. So, it’s important that you involve AdelaideX as early as possible in your project’s planning, so that we can best support you in meeting your goals.

How to get started:

  1. Discuss your research plans with the AdelaideX team to obtain advice on your project’s fit with the AdelaideX program. We will advise you on how it aligns with any current research priorities identified for the MOOC program in general.
  2. Provide details of data requirements to the AdelaideX Learning Technology and Analytics Lead, if your project is agreed to receive AdelaideX support.
  3. Seek HREC approval. Note that if your research involves survey work or use of identifiable student information, you will be required to obtain HREC approval for the project.
  4. Once provided with the data, honour student requests to opt-out of communications or research (this is a legal requirement).
  5. Appropriately credit the AdelaideX Program as the source of the data you have used.
  6. Appropriately credit any AdelaideX staff who have provided support and input to your project.
