Mould identification: a virtual self assessment

Case history

A 10 year-old girl with idiopathic aplastic anaemia presented with pancytopenia and febrile neutropaenia. Immunosuppressive therapy included antithymocyte globin, cyclosporin and high dose methylprednisolone. A progressive swelling with blisters and ulceration developed on her right thigh. Direct examination of biopsy tissue revealed abundant filamentous hyphae and all cultures grew the fungus shown below.
