In the world of cancer treatment, proton therapy’s big news. Highly targeted, it delivers less collateral damage to healthy tissues than other radiation methods; and Scott—an associate professor in our Department of Physics—is playing a key role in bringing it to our shores.

He’s Lead Medical Physicist at the Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy and Research, the first dedicated proton therapy centre in the Southern Hemisphere.

“It’s extremely rewarding using my skills to help Australians diagnosed with cancer have a better quality of life."Dr Scott Penfold

The centre is expected to open in 2024 or 2025 in the Adelaide BioMed City precinct.
