Join the Board of Management

The Theatre Guild invites interested parties to consider nominating for the Board of Management.

  • What is the Board’s role?

    The Board is the Guild’s highest-level decision-making authority, and has legal responsibility for the Guild’s resources, activities, and viability.

    The Board has responsibility for establishing the Guild’s purpose, mission, and vision. It oversees the management of the Guild’s affairs. It fosters the Guild’s progress and development, secures the support of members and friends, and promotes the identity of the Guild in the wider community.

    We require a balance of active participants (actors, directors etc) and those not actively involved in productions on the Board to ensure objectivity and a spread of skills.

  • Strategies

    Four interconnected strategies are being followed to drive the current development of the Theatre Guild, and Board members work in support of these:

    • Expanding and revitalising the Guild’s ‘members and friends’ base;
    • Developing a sustainable fundraising framework
    • Strengthening and implementing opportunities for student members of the Guild;
    • Developing and progressing a Strategic Plan covering a period post-COVID-19.
  • Talents and interests

    We need Board Members who can bring to the Guild skill or experience in one of more of the following:

    • Artistic program development
    • Working with volunteers
    • Knowledge of SA/Australian theatre scene
    • Connections with influential people
    • Marketing & Communications
    • Sponsorship
    • Media / Public Relations
    • Fundraising
    • Lobbying
    • Financial Management
    • Organisational development
    • Legal
    • Policy development
    • Grant application (knowing what to apply for, when, and how)
    • Strategic Planning
    • Human Resources/Personnel
    • Friend-raising/membership development
    • Mentoring

    Previous experience on Boards, while desirable, is not necessary – interest, skills, and a willingness to work for the good of the Guild are what are needed.

  • FOH requirements

    Board Members are required to assist with Front of House duties for the Guild’s productions throughout the year. Shared duties include Box Office Manager and Bar Manager. Guild productions usually take place in March, May, August, and October. Training and assistance in all roles is provided. Front of House duties are perhaps the most important part of a Board Member’s role, not least because they allow an interface between the company and the audience. We strongly encourage all Board members to attend at least one performance of each production.

  • Membership of the Theatre Guild

    Nominations for the Board may only be made by members of the Theatre Guild.
