IPAS members Join $11.7M ARC Research Hub in Responsible AI for Sustainable Grain

Professor Kishan Dholakia, Chief Investigator and Deputy Director, and Dr Ralf Mouthaan, Chief Investigator, from the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing have joined the newly launched $11.7 million ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub in Responsible AI for a Sustainable Grain Industry.

Led by Distinguished Professor Jie Lu at the University of Technology Sydney, the collaboration brings together experts from UTS, the University of Adelaide, Murdoch University, government agencies and industry partners. The hub will focus on three key areas:

Computational genomic breeding to explore optimal genetic traits for photosynthesis, improve climate stress tolerance and optimise nitrogen balancing.

Smart farming systems using automation, monitoring and digitisation to create self-sustaining grain production systems.

Intelligent supply chains to enhance storage, logistics, grain quality and digital carbon credit tracking.

The aim is to develop responsible, explainable and trusted AI tools that increase productivity, support sustainability and position Australia as a global leader in grain production.
