Innovation in Motion: Strengthening Swiss-Australian Collaboration on Clean Energy and Mobility

On 1 September 2025, the Institute for Sustainability, Energy and Resources (ISER) proudly participated in Innovation in Motion, a flagship event celebrating Swiss excellence in clean energy, advanced mobility, and deep technologies.
Hosted at the Pilatus Facility in Adelaide, the event was convened by the Swiss Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Dr. Nikolas Stürchler, during his State visit to South Australia.
South Australia, with nearly 70% renewable energy penetration, was a suitable location for the event. The state has earned global recognition as a leader in sustainable energy development and is currently bidding to host COP31 in November 2026.
The event featured Swiss companies making tangible contributions to Australia’s clean mobility and energy landscape, including:
- Pilatus – providing aircraft for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
- Synhelion – developing renewable aviation fuels.
- Kyburz – supplying electric vehicles to Australia Post.
- Endress+Hauser – advancing smart process engineering and automation.
In addition, the ETH Zurich Solar Car Racing Team showcased their achievement of completing the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge from Darwin to Adelaide.
A roundtable discussion on Swiss-Australian perspectives in sustainability, mobility, and energy, was moderated by Dr. Daniel Rossetto. The session brought together leaders from academia and industry, including Professor Gus Nathan (ISER Director), Joanna Kay (The Superpower Institute), and Taylor McKertich (Endress+Hauser).
The discussion went beyond showcasing innovations, exploring practical measures to strengthen collaboration for developing regulatory frameworks to support innovation. They also discussed designing market incentives for low-carbon technologies, and building research-industry partnerships to accelerate adoption.
The Innovation in Motion event strengthened bilateral collaboration across research, industry, and government. It highlighted practical solutions, from technology demonstrations to policy incentives, that can accelerate decarbonisation. The event laid the foundation for future partnerships in energy transition, mobility, and deep tech.
ISER remains committed to advancing these efforts and looks forward to contributing to shared solutions for a net-zero future.
