Green Metals and Critical Minerals

ISER is leading the transition to sustainable and low-emission production of metals and energy materials, with a particular emphasis on iron, copper, alumina and other green metals as critical enablers of the global energy transition and circular economy.
The University of Adelaide is the leading research partner in the $80m cash ($200m total) Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC) and is also leading a $14.6 million research consortium to boost South Australia’s copper production. ISER is home to the Australian Critical Minerals Centre and the Tectonics and Earth Systems Research Group, conducting ground breaking research in critical minerals exploration, refinement and recovery. We host the biennial international High Temperature Minerals Processing (HiTeMP) Forum, addressing the net-zero transition of heavy industries. These initiatives position ISER at the forefront of innovation in resource sustainability and supply chain resilience.
