Hollywood is the most pervasive and powerful film industry in the world. Most of us are familiar with its products as consumers seeking entertainment, but this course adopts an analytic view to reveal that there is so much more to be enjoyed. Taking this course will permanently enrich your understanding of the films you see every day. It covers Hollywood's history from the early twentieth century to the present day. You will have the opportunity to engage with key films and genres, and you will consider influential critical perspectives. You will acquire a detailed understanding of the significance of Hollywood as an artistic, industrial and ideological centre. Elements of course content will be open to your input as students. This ensures that the course will remain up-to-date and evolve so that it is relevant to your concerns. Course activities and assessments will help you develop skills research, analysis and communication that are transferable to many contexts.

    This course makes active use of MyUni and Echo 360 ALP. For copyright reasons, not all sections of workshop presentations will be available on MyUni, but as much as can be made available will be made available. Readings and assessments will also be made available through MyUni.

    Learning & Teaching Modes
    Teaching and learning modes will include lectures and workshops. Films will not be screened. Students are expected to see them independently. Copies will be made available on DVD through Barr Smith High Use.
