A/Prof Jiawen Li Shortlisted for Sony Women in Technology Award

Associate Professor Jiawen Li, who leads the intravascular imaging program at IPAS, has been shortlisted for the inaugural Sony Women in Technology Award with Nature.

Launched in March 2024 by Sony Group Corporation in partnership with Nature, the award recognizes early to mid-career researchers in technology with prizes of $250,000 USD each to support their work. The program aims to highlight research that drives positive societal impact.

From a global pool of applicants, seven finalists were selected based on ambition, innovation, conceptual excellence, impact, and social significance. The judging panel, co-chaired by Nature Editor-in-Chief Magdalena Skipper and IT pioneer Dame Stephanie Shirley, included experts from various scientific and technical domains, including Sony Distinguished Engineer Makiko Kan and Sony Group CTO Hiroaki Kitano.

Reflecting on this honor, A/Prof Li expressed deep gratitude to her mentors, colleagues, students, and the support networks at Zhejiang University, UC Irvine, and the University of Adelaide. Her innovative work continues to push the boundaries of technology with endless possibilities for improving health outcomes.
