This morning, the Australian Museum announced the finalists for the 2025 Eureka Prizes, and we’re pleased to share that Professor Mark Hutchinson, Director of the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS), has been named a finalist in the Leadership in Science category.
The Eureka Prizes celebrate contributions to science across research, innovation, engagement and leadership. The Leadership in Science prize recognises individuals who not only conduct outstanding research but also create environments where others can thrive.
Mark is a neuroscientist whose work spans pain, addiction, defence technology and sensing science. As former Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics, he developed a bench-to-boardroom approach to research translation, leading to 19 spin-out companies and informing national policy, including the design of the Australian Economic Accelerator.
At IPAS, Mark continues to drive innovation by building collaborative, transdisciplinary teams focused on solving real-world sensing challenges. His leadership places people at the centre of growth. Offering opportunities for leadership, training, and support while fostering a culture grounded in integrity, respect and collegiality.
The Eureka Prize winners will be announced on Wednesday 3 September at Sydney Town Hall.
