The South Australian Centre for Economic Studies (SACES) is a self-funding applied research unit of the University of Adelaide.
SACES was established in 1982 with a principal role to review, research and report on economic and public policy issues of relevance to South Australia and Australia as a whole. It aims to increase the quality of analysis and debate regarding issues within the State, and to establish itself as a pre-eminent economic research centre in Australia.
To achieve its role, SACES engages in the following activities:
- a Corporate Membership program, which includes the regular provision to Members of Economic Briefing Reports with a detailed assessment of economic conditions and the outlook for Australia and South Australia;
- Economic Consulting Services, involving the provision of specialist economic research and advice on a fee-for-service basis to both private sector and government clients (locally, nationally and internationally);
- provision of public commentary on economic, social and fiscal issues and trends; and
- undertakes, promotes and disseminates the results of independent applied research, particularly on issues relevant to regional and national economic growth and development. The results of such research are made available though Economic Issues Papers, reports, speeches and other mediums.
SACES has a core group of in-house Research Staff, and Support Staff and also draws on Research Associates on an ad hoc basis to work on specific research topics.
SACES also engages teaching staff of the University of Adelaide on a contracted basis, to undertake commissioned research and consultancies, and provide Economic Briefings to Corporate Members.
