ADEPT Program

Learning is a life-long endeavour and constant change in our disciplines, higher education, and the world of work motivate us to keep learning and enhancing our practice. Professional learning takes many forms; self-directed learning, learning through formal studies, and learning with others.
The Adelaide Development Program for Educators and Professionals who Teach (ADEPT) program is a peer-led approach to profession learning. The program provides academic and professional staff in teaching, and support for teaching roles, with the opportunity to be inspired by and learn from the practice of their peers.
Dr James Botten, School of Biological Sciences explains that the ADEPT program provides an excellent opportunity to engage with like-minded staff.
"The opportunity to meet and chat with fellow staff dealing with many of the same teaching challenges, has been a real highlight of the ADEPT program." Dr Botten said.
"All this has been made possible through the dedication of the ADEPT teachers, which has been a significant motivator for engaging with the modules and furthering my own professional development as an educator; I cannot speak about them highly enough."
ADEPT Academic Leads, Associate Professor Beth Loveys (School of Agriculture, Food and Wine) and Dr Hayley McGrice (School of Animal and Veterinary Science) are excited to facilitate a range of popular sessions this year.
"The strength of ADEPT is that it enables colleagues to share their challenges and innovations. We present evidence-based approaches and then everyone can discuss how to effectively translate these ideas into their specific context" explains Associate Professor Loveys.
Another key benefit of the ADEPT Program is the opportunity to bring together knowledge from a range of areas across the University.
"We learn so much from our colleagues in these sessions because the participants come from different faculties and disciplines and have different levels of experience. The conversations are always interesting and surface fantastic ideas and examples of good teaching practice". Said Dr McGrice.
