Executive Dean's message

Professor Andrew Zannettino

As I enter my fourth week as Executive Dean in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, it is timely to reflect on how our work transforms communities and contributes to better health outcomes.

Our faculty has had an enormous impact on me personally: I have had a fulfilling association with the University, both as a graduate and staff member over many years.

I have been inspired by the many significant contributions that our faculty has made to advances in medical research, the health outcomes of our community, and our continued leadership in health and medical education. It is with a great sense of pride that I have the opportunity to work with world-class teaching and research teams and a dedicated team of talented professional staff.

As a world leader in health education and research, our collective aspirations are high as we seek to continuously improve health care in Australia and internationally. To this end, in 2023, we will work with our partners to establish the Bragg Comprehensive Centre, which will provide best-in-class cancer care for our community. Furthermore, we will establish the Centre for Intelligent Health, a centre focussed on the implementation of AI in health and medicine. In addition, we will continue to investigate the potential for end-to-end rural medical education with the establishment of the Australian Remote Medicine Academy.

Recently, at the initiative of Professor Danny Liew, the Adelaide Medical School hosted a colloquium with over 70 of our Clinical Titleholders – a team of medical professionals who voluntarily contribute their expertise, experience, and collective knowledge to our teaching, research, and the development of tomorrow’s leaders in health. This event highlighted the importance of our partnerships with medical professionals across the State and celebrated the value of their significant contributions.

I look forward to working closely with our schools, staff and partners as the year progresses to ensure that our collective efforts result in positive impact for our communities and a healthy future for all.
