Taikunthi now open

Taikunthi

The University’s new restaurant, café, and bar Taikunthi has opened on level 5 of the beautifully refurbished Union House.

Pronounced ‘tie-goon-dee’, Taikunthi reflects the spirit of its Kaurna name, meaning to ‘join, unite and partner together’. It’s a space where people can connect and enjoy the best of what modern Australian cuisine has to offer.

The menu features dishes made from quality local ingredients and a carefully curated beverage offering, including more than 600 wines to share in house or take away.

Managed by the National Wine Centre, Taikunthi is open to staff, students, and members of the public from 8am weekdays for coffee and breakfast, with large and lighter lunch dishes served from 11.30am until the early evening. The restaurant can also be booked after hours and on weekends for functions.

Every Thursday, join the sommeliers in a Behind the Bottle wine tasting, featuring a different winery every week. The bar will be open till 7pm on Fridays with live music from 3pm.

The interior fit out of Taikunthi celebrates the unique identity of the architecture of Union House with colours and features that speak to the existing building materiality. Rich terracotta hues echo the original exposed brickwork, warm stone tones pay homage to the concrete beams and structure, caramel shades reference the straw ceilings, and the chevron patterned carpet reflects the pavers in the Cloisters Courtyard below.
