2024 Japanese Foreign Minister's Award

Taikunthi now open

Taikunthi

North Terrace Campus has a new restaurant, café and bar on level 5 Union House. Taikunthi (pronounced ‘tie-goon-dee’), reflects the spirit of its Kaurna name, meaning to ‘join, unite and partner together’. The menu features dishes made from tasty local ingredients and a carefully curated beverage offering. Open from 8am weekdays for coffee and breakfast, lunch with colleagues or a drink after work. Research impact refers to the contributions your research makes beyond academia. This course covers the fundamentals of research impact – what it is and how it can be embedded into every step of the research journey. This program is relevant to researchers at all levels, across all major disciplines. You can record the course for 3 credits in Domain D for CaRST. Enrol.

All staff Town Halls – metro campuses

The co-Vice Chancellors and Deputy Vice Chancellors will be hosting a series of in-person town halls in October across many campuses, with Roseworthy campus on Wednesday 30 October, City East/North Terrace campus on Thursday 31 October, and online on Friday 1 November.

New campus artworks

Prominent artist and alum Peter Drew was at work at each of our campuses last Thursday pasting up new artworks created for Lumen magazine and the University. The striking posters are of Edith Dornwell, our first female graduate and Australia’s first science graduate in 1885. They are screen printed and painted images individually created by Peter, with a dozen of them now prominently displayed on walls at Waite, Roseworthy and North Terrace.

Russell Cole Memorial ANZCA Research Award

Professor Andrew Somogyi, Dr Daniel Barratt, and Dr Sanam Mustafa (School of Biomedicine) were awarded the Russell Cole Memorial ANZCA Research Award for their project Optimising oxycodone pain management in cancer patients through metabolic, proteomic, genetic and immune biomarkers.

Union House transformation complete

Beautifully refurbished Union House has reopened after a six-year renovation. Lost architectural elements have been restored or reinstated, and cross-building pathways opened up via the network of balconies. Level 4 is a haven for students with lounges, kitchens, study and chill spaces, plus the new Fitness Hub. Level 5 features Taikunthi restaurant overlooking the Cloisters and function rooms for up to 280 people, bookable from 2025. More information.
