Casual Writing Mentor Positions Available

The Writing Centre is hiring Writing Mentors to begin in semester 1 of the 2019 academic year. The Writing Centre is a central university service that provides academic learning and language support and resources for local, international, undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students.

Working under the direction of the Writing Centre Coordinator, Writing Mentors meet with students one-on-one in the dedicated Writing Centre space in Level 3 of Hub Central, East. Writing Mentors are responsible for helping students develop confidence in their writing and help them develop the tools to improve their writing skills.

Applicants from all faculties are encouraged to apply, as the Writing Centre offers support to students from across the university.

The Writing Centre operates between 10am-4pm, Monday to Friday during Semester.

The successful Writing Mentors will take part in paid training sessions and staff meetings throughout the year and enjoy being part of a vibrant and supportive small team.   

Start date: Week of 1/3/2019.

This is a casual position. If successful, you should expect to work 8-16 hours per week during semester.

To be successful you should have:

  • an undergraduate degree in any field
  • demonstrated skills in academic writing
  • demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
  • passion for working with students from all disciplines
  • experience delivering high-quality customer service
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team
  • flexible availability
