Become a Participation Assistant

Disability Support recruit students who may be interested in working as Participation Assistants on a casual basis during study periods.

The role of a Participation Assistant is to assist students with a disability to complete specific hands-on tasks in class, where the student is unable to complete those tasks independently. Participation Assistants do not provide academic support or assist with writing or editing assessments.

The Participation Assistant role is a recognised activity under the university’s Adelaide Graduate Award program.

Applications to become a Participation Assistant are assessed periodically when required.

  • Eligibility

    • Must be an enrolled student at The University of Adelaide.
    • Have successfully completed at least 12 months of university study.
    • Average GPA 4.5 and above.
    • Interested in working with students with disabilities.
    • Relevant right to work in Australia status.

    Please note: a Working with Children Check is required. Disability Support will assist the process if needed. 

  • Availability

    Participation Assistants will be completing tasks, as required by the student, during class times only. As such, days/hours of classes will vary according to the student’s enrolment. After hours work might be required (e.g., for tutorials after 5 PM).

    This position would suit students who are interested in 2-3 hours of work per week, or who may be interested in assisting in longer classes (e.g., 4-hour labs/practicals).

    In accordance with HEO 2.

  • Training

    Role preparation will be provided by Disability Support.
