4000 Miles by Amy Herzog

Octogenarian and feisty political activist Vera Joseph’s solitary existence is shaken when her grandson Leo appears at her door in the middle of the night, having crossed the country on his bicycle with his best friend. As an overnight couch-surf turns into an extended stay, these unlikely roommates infuriate, bewilder and ultimately reach each other through a moving and amusing battle of wits.

Friends of the Library author event - Lisa Slade, Assistant Director Art Gallery SA on her book - Tom Moore: Abundant Wonder

Lisa Slade presents on leading Australian glass artist Tom Moore - of Adelaide JamFactory and widely staged exhibitions and happenings. His engaging, sophisticated and technically challenging hybridised animal/plant sculptures - and the fantastical worlds they inhabit - are embedded in the history of glassmaking and scientific discovery. His vitreous bestiary series was inspired by curious images in the famous 15th century Nuremberg Chronicle of which the Library has a facsimile to be displayed.
