Our doors open every month
Our researchers are driven by the desire to understand. They work to uncover new knowledge and shed light on the world's biggest challenges. From tackling Meningococcal B to finding energy solutions for the future, our discoveries make a difference to people's lives across the world.
At Research Tuesdays we share this knowledge, every month. If you're curious about the changing world, we invite you to join us. Our doors open every month.
Australians are well and truly sold on complementary medicines. It’s estimated we now spend almost $5bn on them annually—even more than on prescriptions. But in the case of herbal remedies, consumers’ results can be dangerously different from the glowing health they’re hoping for.
Mounting scientific evidence indicates that, while some herbal medicines have their place, ‘herbal’ does not automatically equal ‘natural’; and ‘natural’ does not guarantee ‘safe’. Real potential for harm—even death—exists from contaminants, undisclosed ingredients and herb-herb and herb-drug interactions.
In this important presentation, two leading University of Adelaide health researchers will analyse the greatest risks—both for herbal medicines’ preparation and consumption—and explain how to avoid them. Don’t miss it.
