National Day of Mourning 22 September 2022: Casual staff payment

Dear Colleagues

In response to the public holiday for the National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday 22 September 2022, we are aware that there may be a financial impact on some of our casual staff.

As this public holiday was unplanned and declared at very short notice, a number of University activities have needed to be cancelled or postponed. While many of these activities can and have been rescheduled, there may be instances where the work cannot be rescheduled. In these circumstances, the University has decided to make a payment to our casual staff members equivalent to the hours lost so they are not financially disadvantaged.

To enable this payment to occur, casual staff who were scheduled to work on this day and for whom it has not been possible to reschedule those hours of work, the following actions are to be taken:

  • Affected staff will need to submit a claim for the relevant hours that were not rescheduled on their timesheet, as per the usual process.
  • Your delegated timesheet approver will then need to confirm the casual hours were scheduled for Thursday 22 September 2022 and it has not been possible to reschedule this work, by approving the timesheet details.
  • Payment will then be made in line with the usual pay cycle.
