Executive Dean's message

The first quarter of the year always provides wonderful opportunities for staff and students from the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics to showcase our talents to the community.
The University partners with the Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe and WOMADelaide to support the arts and events that are so vital to the cultural identity of this State, and to continue our invaluable legacy for the performing arts sector in Australia.
In particular, the Elder Conservatorium of Music's students and staff played an enormous role in this March’s festivals, with a wide variety of participation showcasing a diversity of cultures, creativity, personal expression and storytelling.
The Faculty has also recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Far West Aboriginal Community Leaders Group and Far West Coast Community Partnership. The MoU will lead to opportunities for collaborations in research, teaching and learning.
The social sciences and humanities are critical to a full understanding of how STEM and Health and Medical Science outcomes should and do impact our society. The work of our young researchers will be on display tomorrow at the inaugural ABLE Higher Degree by Research Conference. This will provide a great opportunity for HDR students to network with peers and academic researchers from across the Faculty.
Throughout 2023, the Faculty will have more reasons to celebrate our contributions to South Australia’s rich cultural and intellectual landscape. This year marks the 140th anniversaries for both the Elder Conservatorium of Music and the Adelaide Law School, and 50 years for the Centre of Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM), which now also has joint Indigenous leadership for the first time in its history.
I express my thanks to my colleagues across the Faculty for their contributions and look forward to working together as we continue to benefit our State and our communities through excellence in education, discovery, and engagement.
