Deputy Vice-Chancellor's message

Dr Jessica Gallagher

Last Tuesday we held the University’s first ever Giving Day. This was an opportunity to celebrate the strength of our community and the power of philanthropy to foster unity and positive change.

More than 700 staff and students enjoyed the events held at North Terrace, Waite and Roseworthy campuses and brought a real festival spirit to the activities.

I am thrilled to report that more than $450,000 was raised on the day, absolutely smashing our target of $350,000. It was also a day when our alumni and friends across the globe came together to participate, with more than 450 individual donors making over 600 donations.

I am particularly grateful for the generosity of all our Academic and Professional staff members who already give so much. A sincere thank you to all of you – for your time, your efforts and commitment to our University.

The number of staff who so generously donated to Giving Day causes is impressive and the highest I have seen during my time at the University, and I understand even surpassed the COVID student support appeal in 2020. I also want to acknowledge those of you who continue to donate through the University’s Workplace Giving Program. I recognise that many people are experiencing financial pressures, and the outcome from Giving Day is truly a remarkable result in challenging times. Every gift whether large or small is highly valued.

All 15 Giving Day causes received donations with 100% of funds directly supporting students, research initiatives and community programs. These valuable contributions are transforming lives and contributing to the development of a stronger society.

Finally, a huge thank you to the Advancement team and staff from right across the University for your efforts to bring Giving Day to life. We would not have achieved such a wonderful result without your hard work and dedication.
