Vice-Chancellor's message

Professor Peter Hoj

As we begin the second quarter of 2025, it has been pleasing to see that even during change, the University follows its time-honoured rituals. Our campuses are again full of students, and our staff and volunteers are doing their best to ensure that students are equipped with the information, resources, and support services to ensure they get the most out of their studies.

Alongside our core business, we are all also working to strengthen the connections between the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia, and to develop the necessary organisational structures, processes and plans for the opening of Adelaide University.

To that end, change proposal papers are being released, to outline how alignment of our people to positions in the intended Adelaide University organisational structure will progress. In accordance with the Enterprise Agreements, Town Hall meetings will follow the release of each Change Proposal paper.

The first two Portfolio Change Proposal papers, for the Indigenous Portfolio and People and Culture Portfolio, were released on Tuesday 18 March. The consultation period closes Monday 7 April with the final change plan released Monday 28 April.

The consultation process will provide all employees with opportunities to provide feedback, seek information and ask questions about how they will align to the new Adelaide University structures and roles.

The next Portfolio change proposals, for the Corporate, and the International and External Engagement Portfolios, are on track to be accessible on Tuesday 8 April. The Academic, Research and Innovation, and Provost Portfolios will be accessible in May, with the date to be confirmed soon. The Change Proposal Hub on the Adelaide University website has full details.

During this process, which I acknowledge can be unsettling for some, I encourage you to take the time to access the available resources and support, to provide feedback, and to navigate these change processes with clarity and care. Please be mindful of your colleagues, and support each other as best you can. All staff at the University, including those working within the Integration Management Office, can also access the confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

This institution, as will be the future Adelaide University, is a critical player in the success of the State and its economy, as well as its cultural and intellectual life. Together, we will continue to work to attract the very best students, teachers, researchers and professionals so that we can serve South Australia by providing graduates of excellence and integrity, and research that transforms our society.

Thank you for all of your contributions.

Professor Peter Høj AC
Vice-Chancellor and President
