Deputy Vice-Chancellor's message

Professor Jennie Shaw

One of the joys of working at this University is the opportunity to play a fundamental role in providing an excellent educational experience. Ultimately, each of us helps to support our students to be outstanding in whatever they choose to study and pursue in their lives. The flow-on effect of our work spreads throughout our communities, and across generations.

Learning experiences and support services contribute significantly to the academic success of our students, with online and in-person options providing flexibility to suit lifestyles, stages-of-life, and location.

Through PACE (Professional and Continuing Education), we deliver focused and high-quality professional development to thousands of individuals each year, and transformational outcomes for organisations including the City of Playford, Adelaide Airport, Suncorp, the Australian Signals Directorate, and Mitsubishi Motors Australia.

Further, the Australian Government has funded over $3M for development and delivery of free micro-credentials to upskill some of the most important members of our society: our teachers, with around 4,000 educators enrolled in Classroom Management, Explicit Teaching, and the latest one, Phonics.

We also run Study Tour programs in the English Language Centre for international cohorts. Over the summer, the ELC welcomed over 600 students to Adelaide, contributing to our vibrant multicultural campuses, and bringing economic benefits to our State. In addition, enrolments for the Pre-enrolment English Program, which leads to award programs, are currently tracking 20% above 2024 numbers, with most students from China.

For our current students, Career Services recently hosted the annual Career Expo. Over 2,700 students engaged with more than 80 employer exhibitors from a range of industries, including energy and resources, engineering, finance, government, and health.

I thank everyone who works so hard and so creatively to enhance our students’ learning experiences, and who therefore contributes to a strong and positive future for our learners on campus, online, and around the world.
