Deputy Vice-Chancellor's message

Jessica Gallagher

I am delighted that the University of Adelaide is again partnering with Illuminate Adelaide to create a vibrant gathering place for our staff, students, alumni and the broader community from 4-20 July.

LUMEN Bar also returns, for its fifth season, with a 1970s retro vibe, vinyl DJs, a wine list full of alumni winemakers’ products, and delicious local bites. It will be a cosy and inviting venue to book for team get-togethers.

Staff and students are invited to take a sneak peek inside LUMEN Bar at the soft launch on 3 July for which no bookings are required.

The official opening is on 4 July, and staff and students can enjoy a 15% Happy Hour discount from 5-6.30 pm.

Inside beautiful Bonython Hall, you’ll be able to experience SomniUs, a free, interactive installation composed of over six kilometres of LED housed in nearly a thousand handmade light bars in a giant feedback loop, created by the UK’s illumaphonium.

Napier Lawns will host Kickit Team Tennis, a fast-paced light art game for up to 10 players.

There will be many other projections and activations, both on our grounds, such as the dazzling Mycelium Network near the Sir Walter Hughes Statue, and in and around our North Terrace neighbours.

As part of City Lights, North Terrace will also come alive with roaming performances from Illuminated Angels, FierS a Cheval and Illuminati, created by international artists.

Illuminate Adelaide, with AU branding for the first time, coincides with mid semester break and leads into mid-year orientation and the first AU Open Day on 27 July.

It promises to be a busy time for all, and I thank staff, students, and our volunteers who are working hard to deliver a July to remember.
