Should I get an axolotl?

I love being around animals. They;

  1. Relieve stress and anxiety
  2. Improve your mood
  3. Just bring more joy to your life.

I have always been surrounded by animals. From chickens, to horses and fish to guinea pigs. Unfortunately, being an interstate university student means I can’t exactly bring a pony into my share house. But an axolotl would be the prefect pet. Relatively low mess, it wouldn’t require exuberant amounts of attention and I could give him a nice big tank with lots of plants and green. Other than that, what about a turtle? They’re funky little guys. I could get four and name them; Leonardo, Rafael, Donatello and Michelangelo just liked I dreamed of when I was younger. I certainly think that is one key thing I miss about renting in the city, less green and no animals.

I also believe these are two things that can make a real difference to an individual’s mental health and well-being. So, if you’re ever feeling down, go to a pet shop and look at an axolotl, or look at a cheeky lorikeet in a tree without a care in the world. For the moment I might hold off on buying an axolotl but I think a lil’ fishy may be in my future! What pet would you get to calm you down and keep the frantic university stress at bay?
