Adelaide bucket list

Adelaide Rotunda

A few of my international student friends have recently graduated and are finishing up their time in Adelaide. Even though I’ve been living here for several years, I realised that there are still many things I’ve not seen or done in Adelaide.

At our recent catch-up (and given restrictions), we started making a list of things we might do together before they leave.

Adelaide Oval Roof Climb. I think the main reason I haven’t tried this one is because I’m a wee bit worried about heights. Climbing up with a group though and seeing the city and the Oval from up there would be memorable – a bit more special than heading to a rooftop bar. Maybe I won’t rule this one out.

Float along the river Torrens. I very often take a walk by the river during my lunch break. As an HDR student, I don’t really have any classes to attend so I try and break up my days of research by attending uni events, school seminars but also by stretching my legs and taking a walk around midday. I do the Riverbank Trail Loop and is a good hour’s walk. Most of the time, I use this time to catch-up with my other friends and spend an hour chatting as we walk. None of us have actually been in the river though so one of these days, we’ll have to try the paddle boats or the BBQ Buoys or Popeye river cruises.

Wine and cheese picnic at Kuitpo Forest. I’ve done a fair bit of camping around Australia in the last decade. There are still so many places I’d love to travel to for camping but at this stage of my candidature, I think I’ll go on a camping trip to celebrate submitting my thesis. In the meantime, a picnic would be a beautiful way to share a meal together. This forest is about a 45-minute drive from the city but it would be lovely to have a picnic in a natural Eucalypt woodland.

Here are few more things I’ve not done in Adelaide. What are other experiences or places to visit that you would recommend to other international students?

  • Visit Monarto Zoo.
  • Visit the Lights of Lobethal.
  • Visit the gardens at Carrick Hill.
