Graduate Profile - Ellen Watson

WiSAN Committee member

What did you study at University?
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) (Honours) with a Bachelor of Finance. Additionally, I am
currently completing a Masters of Business Administration (Emerging Leaders).

Are you a cat person or dog person
A dog person!

Favourite place to eat when in Adelaide
Chicco Palms would have to be #1. But I also can’t go past Pizzatecca, Bottega and Cheeky Greek.

What drew you to your field?
I had always been interested in how things worked, especially things that moved. At school I did
Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and Mechanical Engineering seemed like the perfect fit for me.

If I could go back to my University days I would…
Join more societies, and attend more events hosted at the University. There are so many fantastic
opportunities to get involved whilst at University, and I think getting involved really early in your
degree is a great way to meet people and have amazing experiences.

Most prized possession
My collection on the Royal Family. I am a royalist, and have a collection of all types of memorabilia
ranging from cups and tea towels, to coins and books.

If you could start a charity, what would it be for?
Supporting STEM in schools. I think encouraging children to enjoy and pursue STEM from a young
age is a great way to highlight it is a pathway for their future.

What is your greatest career strength?
My determination and resilience. I understand that there are going to be challenges along the way,
and learning from these is only going to make me a stronger person.

Something that makes you smile
Knowing that I am able to continue to learn something new every single day, and I love what I do.

What current fact about your life would most impress your five year old self?
The fact that I can buy chocolate or chips from the shops without having to ask my parents.

Something you are grateful for
The opportunities I have been given in my life, including the ability to study a degree I am
passionate about, and even be able to travel around the world on exchanges because of this.

What is your dream role?
In Engineering, I would love to move into Project Management. Outside of Engineering, I would
love to be a Royal Correspondent for Hello!

What’s your favourite flower or plant?
You can’t go past a red rose!

What do you wish someone had told you after you graduated?
You aren’t expected to know everything on your first day. Being in the workforce is just as much
about learning as being at University.

I cannot get through the day without…
Singing or Dancing to some music. Whether it is in the car or in the shower, it is something I love to
do everyday.

Three words your closest friends would use to describe you
Tall, Outgoing, Responsible
