Sarah Marquis

Sarah Marquis

Bachelor of Applied Science in Oenology, Class of 1987–90

Sarah Marquis and her husband, Sparky, had big dreams of developing their own business; succeeding in a career they were both passionate about, helping other people be their best and having fun! After graduating from Roseworthy, Sarah and her husband began their work as winemakers with Sarah’s parents at ‘Fox Creek’ based at McLaren Vale. Together, they started GRAPES Consulting (Great Reds and People Equal Success) serving as consultants to wine makers for private clients. ‘Henrys Drive and Parsons Flat’ 1998-2003 was born, followed by ‘Two Hands’ 2000, ‘Marquis Philip’ 2000-2004 and ‘Shirvington’ 2001-2003. In 2005, Sarah and Sparky started their very own brand, Mollydooker, and in 2007 they bought the winery and vineyards on Coppermine Road, McLaren Vale where Mollydooker and all of its operations reside today. “We processed 100,000 tonne for the 2016 vintage and now employ around 50 staff.” Sarah is a brilliant example of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication to craft and a desire to help others succeed.

What is Sarah’s fondest memory while studying at Roseworthy?
“When I performed a duo with fellow student Phil Spilman on guitar and I played my violin at an Old Scholars Dinner. Peter Dry came up afterwards and told me he really admired the fact that I was brave enough to play in front of all those people. He said he could never have done it. Peter Dry in my view was the best lecturer in our course, so it really meant a lot to me at that time.”
