Thinking well: the breakthrough of a breakdown

Breaking through.

One step at a time. Sometimes the best thing to do during hard times is just to take the next step – just do the next thing. Do what needs to be done, one step at a time, little by little. It’s very similar to the production of a doctoral thesis. Creating a document of 80,000 words can seem intimidating but you get there by writing two hours each day. One day at a time.

Rest a little. Then do what you need to do, take the next step. It might be doing the dishes or finishing an assignment or going for a walk or calling a friend or learning to do a new thing, like yoga. Just do the next thing. And then rest a little. Then do the next thing again. You won’t see it right away, but all your little steps are getting you to where you need to be
