Performance Evaluations

Performance Evaluations are ungraded assessments of a candidate's musical performance. A candidate can be enrolled in a Performance Evaluation in any session which can accommodate their subject/instrument.

To enrol, please email the AMEB SA & NT office.

Evaluation timings and fees are equivalent to the corresponding Repertoire exam. E.g. a Grade 4 Flute performance evaluation is the same length and cost as a Grade 4 Flute Repertoire exam.

Candidates who would benefit from receiving feedback prior to an exam, or instead of an exam (or perhaps benefit from experiencing exam conditions prior to an exam), could consider a performance evaluation.

Performance evaluations for Diploma candidates

A Performance Evaluation is offered at no cost to all candidates who enter for a music diploma exam. The purpose of this evaluation is to allow candidates to perform a sample of their program and receive feedback that will help them focus their preparation in the lead up to their exam. The evaluation is not graded, but candidates will receive detailed feedback on up to 45 minutes of performing.

Each performance evaluation is assessed by a specialist examiner. In some cases it will be impossible to avoid having the same examiner also involved in the actual diploma examination. Where it has been necessary to use the same examiner, that person will not write the actual diploma report.

It is important to note that positive feedback in the examiner’s report at Performance Evaluation stage does not necessarily guarantee success in the final exam.

In 2024, these evaluations are offered by video. Candidates enrolled in a Diploma exam will automatically be enrolled in the Video Repertoire session and can submit their video for evaluation anytime up to and including the relevant submission date published in this year's Exam Dates, or as per below:
