Climate sharing and energy security

Climate sharing and energy security

Background

Australian policy makers are searching for a way to transition to a low carbon economy without increasing the costs to households of purchasing electricity. Many solutions have been proposed and a number tried. As yet, however, there is no bipartisan agreement as to the best way to pursue these two objectives. The result is an investment environment that lacks certainty. Greenhouse gas intensive power stations are being closed but business is reluctant to invest.

Objectives and outputs

Building upon GFAR’s water reform experience, this project is searching for ways to bring investment confidence back to the electricity sector. To this end, we have developed a proposal for the development of a robust climate sharing system.

Proposal: Climate Sharing: A powerful option
