Greening the grid

Dr Jaquelin Cochran

How will the grid adapt to manage the increasing demand for net-zero carbon electricity, on the pathway to the net-zero economies of the future?

Dr Jaquelin Cochran, Director of the Grid Planning and Analysis Center, at the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), says that the grid is changing to meet new demands for clean energy supply and to meet new customer expectations.

She recently led a project investigating how the city of Los Angeles’ grid might run on 100% renewable energy. Dr Cochrane will present this project as a case study at the third international forum on high temperature minerals processing forum (HiTeMP-3), which is being held at the National Wine Centre, Adelaide from Sept 26 – 28, and online.

“The study is a first-of-its-kind, objective, highly-detailed, science-based study to analyse potential pathways Los Angeles can take, to a achieve 100% clean electricity future,” she says.
