Health, Safety and Wellbeing

The University of Adelaide aims to create and engender a University culture that values health, safety and wellbeing as fundamental components of the work environment, supported by safe systems of work, appropriate governance, training, management structures and operational strategies. All staff have a responsibility for Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) in the workplace. In accordance with the Provision of HSW information, instruction and training chapter of the HSW Handbook, each worker is to be provided with suitable and adequate information, instruction, training and supervision. This information will target specific health and safety measures which relate to your role, the hazards, the procedures and the specific environment in which you work.

A wide range of HSW resources are available through the Human Resources Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Website. All staff are encouraged to familiarise themselves with this information.

UniSafe

At the University of Adelaide your health, safety and wellbeing is taken very seriously.

It is important for anyone attending the University, staff, students, title-holders, volunteers and contractors, to report safety issues or incidents as soon as they occur. This includes while working from home, on campus or at other locations while conducting university business. It means that problems can be addressed and resolved as soon as possible to prevent an injury or illness to other members of the university community.

UniSafe is the online system used to manage information related to University of Adelaide safety issues. Reporting in UniSafe via the app or online is quick and easy.

Emergency Procedures

Your supervisor must inform you of your local area emergency procedures during local area induction/orientation. Please observe emergency evacuation diagrams, usually found in high traffic areas of the workplace including noticeboards and near doorways, elevators and stairwells. These diagrams also include the names and contact information of key personal, such as emergency wardens and first aid officers. Advise your unit or department manager if these are not available, or need to be updated.

Emergency management information

Emergencies can occur at any time for a variety of reasons, and the University has people, systems and processes in place to ensure they are handled efficiently and appropriately.

For information such as evacuation exercises, the University warden register, warden emergency procedure manuals, forms and checklists, fire and emergency training and the emergency stores register access the Emergency Management Information provided by Infrastructure.

General information on responsibilities during an emergency situation can be found in the HSW Handbook.
