We are in the middle of one of my favourite annual events at our University: the Children’s University graduations in Bonython Hall. Over a three week period, more than 3,000 excited young children will visit the North Terrace campus, dressed in their graduation robes and accompanied by their proud families and supporters. This month we will have 12 graduations, and I wish to thank all my colleagues whose contributions to the many aspects of this program make it a reality, and a success.

It was a privilege to recently attend the Reburial of Kaurna Ancestors at Kaurna Wangayarta, Smithfield Memorial Park. The ceremony laid to rest Kaurna ancestors whose remains were taken to the South Australian Museum in the late 1800s and early 20th century. It was a profoundly moving occasion and a powerful reminder of the enduring connection of the Kaurna people to this land.

Last Thursday, the University hosted the Gillard Public Lecture 2025, a free event in Bonthyon Hall to which our community is invited each year. This lecture is hosted by the Honourable Professor Julia Gillard AC, 27th Prime Minister of Australia, an alum of the University of Adelaide, and a Visiting Honorary Professor here since 2013.

Applications closing soon: AU Strategic Conference Sponsorship Fund
Applications for the AU Strategic Conference Sponsorship Fund close at 5pm on Friday 21 November. Staff can apply for up to $20K in funding to support strategic events that profile AU to global audiences. Information and the online application form are available on the AU Staff Intranet. 07 Nov
Interim Casual Staff Request process
An interim process has been implemented to allow hiring managers/supervisors to engage with casual staff for AU, with commencement dates from January 2026. 'One Hundred Factorial' is the Maths Learning Centre's art, puzzle and game sessions which will be having special sessions over the holiday period, once a month, over the summer break. Legal deposit: compliance reminder for University publishers
A reminder that legal deposit laws require University of Adelaide to provide copies of works it publishes to the State Library of South Australia. University-published materials that may require deposit include reports, journals, brochures. Electronic deposit is preferred via National edeposit (NED), which satisfies state and national requirements. Gestures of Care is an exhibition showcasing creative artworks from a University led ARC Linkage project on one of Australia's most innovative early intervention peer to peer programs, Family by Family. The artworks are co-created by research participants, artists, composers, animators and anthropologists, demonstrating the power of radical care in vulnerable families and communities. ImmigrAction: A visual journey of migration and health
The ImmigrAction Photo Exhibition explores the lived experiences of newly arrived Brazilian migrants in Adelaide through their own eyes - and their own lenses. This exhibition is the outcome of the research project: “Bridging cultures: Understanding Brazilian migrant perspectives in Adelaide – A Photovoice study”. Elder After Hours - Born in Vienna
Celebrating Vienna as the birthplace of orchestral music as we know it, this special performance presents Mozart’s first and last thoughts, Beethoven’s dramatic arrival onto the stage, and Schubert’s ‘great’ C major symphony, a work that sums up the Viennese classical tradition while simultaneously knocking on the door of the romanticism that took its place. Record keeping responsibilities
As we prepare for Day 1 of Adelaide University, all staff are reminded of their responsibilities under the State Records Act (1997). University records (digital or physical) must be preserved and not destroyed without authorisation. Risks posed by illegal academic cheating services
TEQSA is concerned that illegal academic cheating services are posing a cyber security risk to higher education providers, through systematic targeting of learning management systems (LMS), and resulting in threats to students, academic and professional staff, research and information security, and have published the Sector update: Cyber security and associated risks posed by illegal academic cheating services. 23 Apr The updated Recruitment Procedure has been approved and is now available on the policies website.
