Outstanding Debts for Domestic Students

Late, non payment or incomplete deferral of student contribution (HECS-HELP)

If you do not pay your Student Contribution by the due date, and you:

  • are eligible for HECS-HELP, and
  • have completed a 'Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP' form, and
  • have provided the University with your Tax File Number (TFN)

any outstanding Student Contribution after census date will be deferred to a HECS-HELP debt with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). There will be no impact on your studies. Once your Student Contribution has been deferred, payment cannot be accepted by the University and you must contact the ATO with regard to payment of the debt.

However, there are consequences that apply if you do not pay your Student Contribution by the due date and you

  • have not applied for HECS-HELP to defer your Student Contribution payment, or
  • have applied for HECS-HELP, but have not provided your TFN to the University, or
  • are not eligible for HECS-HELP

your enrolment will be cancelled if the Student Contribution is not paid on, or before the census date. The University will notify you that your enrolment has been cancelled.

Your Tax File Number can be entered into MyAdelaide.

If you have applied for a TFN but have not received it by the census date, please refer to the information about TFN's on our HECS-HELP page.

Late, non payment or incomplete deferral of local tuition fees (FEE- HELP)

If you do not pay your local tuition fees by the due date, and you

  • are eligible for FEE-HELP, and
  • have completed a 'Request for FEE-HELP assistance' form, and
  • have provided the University with your Tax File Number (TFN)

any outstanding local tuition fees as at census date will be deferred to a FEE-HELP debt to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). There will be no impact on your studies.

There are serious consequences if you do not meet your financial obligations to the University by the due date and you

  • have not completed a 'Request for FEE-HELP assistance' form, and
  • have not provided your Tax File Number, or
  • are not eligible for FEE-HELP

For details of the University’s approach to debts incurred by students, whether currently enrolled or not, refer to our University Student Debt Outcomes.

The consequences for non payment may include cancellation of enrolment for students who have not paid their fees by the census date or applied for FEE-HELP. The University will provide you with a warning before cancelling your enrolment.

Your Tax File Number can be entered into MyAdelaide.

If you have applied for a TFN but have not received it by the census date, please refer to the information about TFN's on our FEE-HELP page.

See the Financial Assistance page for possible assistance options.
