Repayment of HELP Debt

Your HELP debt includes any unpaid HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP, OS-HELP, SA-HELP and VET Student Loans debts.

Repayment of a HELP debt is compulsory when your taxable income is above the minimum repayment threshold set by the Australian Government. The compulsory repayment threshold is different each year. Please refer to the current Repayment threshold on Study Assist.

Compulsory repayment of your HELP debt to the Australian Taxation Office is made through the Australian taxation system.

All HELP debts are indexed each year to maintain their real value. Your myGov account will show the current balance of your HELP debt and you can also make repayments through your myGov account.

If you don't have a myGov account, you can set one up following the instructions on the ATO website or you can call the ATO on 13 28 61.

You can also request a HELP account statement by calling the ATO on 13 28 61.
