PLANNING 7028 - Design Communications

North Terrace Campus - Semester 1 - 2014

This course aims to develop basic skills in graphic and verbal communication about design in built environments. Four major areas are covered in this course: colour theory and message composition; hand and digital graphics skills; integration of hand and digital graphics; and oral presentation techniques. The lecture and tutorial session of each week builds on the knowledge and understanding of the lecture and tutorial session of the previous week. This course starts with fundamental design communications vocabulary and progresses to advanced hand and digital graphics together with oral presentation skills towards the end of the semester. Students are given a small assignment each week to demonstrate their understanding of the lecture materials. The knowledge and skills acquired through these small assignments lead to a final assignment which will be presented both orally and in large graphic display format at the end of semester.
